December is once again the most social month of the year. Here are some ideas so you don't show up empty handed when your host tells you not to bring anything.
My extended family loves to entertain and when I ask what I can bring I'm typically met with "just yourselves." Needless to say, I've given hostess gifts a lot of thought over the years. Here are a some thought starters and (mostly) consumable products that any host will appreciate.
Wine bottle wrapped in holiday dish towels
If you know your host loves wine, a lovely bottle of their favorite red or white wine would always be welcome. You can pick up some festive holiday dish towels, wrap the bottle horizontally with them and secure them with a ribbon. You could also further embellish with a matching themed cookie cutter or spatula.
Williams Sonoma Winter Forrest hand soap and lotion
This is a classic scent from W&S that is so beautiful this time of year and is lovely for the rest of the winter season until the weather breaks for spring. I love the combination of soap and lotion because this is also the time of year when my hands start to get really dry and crave lotion. (Williams Sonoma Winter Forrest hand soap and lotion)
Yankee Candle Balsam & Cedar Jar Candle
Another classic scent that has been around for decades, this Yankee Candle Balsam and Cedar Jar Candle is so soothing both during the holidays and throughout January and February.
A beautiful ornament
If your host puts up a Christmas tree, they will appreciate a thoughtful ornament. With so many different types and styles, the hard part is picking the right one. It's really a matter of finding something you think your hostess with love. If you aren't sure of their style, stick with a classic shape or material like this jingle bell star ornament. (link)
Papaya reusable paper towel
This is a cool product I just discovered. One of these reusable paper towels replaces 17 rolls of paper towels! You can even throw them in the dishwasher and right now they come with a nice holiday card and fun hook to keep them handy. (link)
Disposable hand towels
Unfortunately, COVID19 is still with us and I've noticed during the pandemic that many people have switched over to disposable hand towels in their powder room. I Love the simple design on these disposable hand towels available on Amazon.
Glass markers
This is a nod to my sister-in-law (thanks Becky!) who brought these to me once as a hostess gift and I absolutely love them. Instead of those little charms that fall into garbage disposals or when people can't remember which charm was theirs, you can literally write someone's name on their glass. This glass marker set has all the holiday colors (red, green, gold and silver) and some others for parties for the rest of the year.
Salt
If you're going to a house party, chances are there's a cook in the house and salt is the ultimate consumable. This is a beautiful Jacobsen Salt Co. set from Williams Sonoma but there are tons of options out there. Fun fact: salt is the only rock we eat and plays a fascinating role in our history as humans. If you know your host is an avid reader this book could be a unique hostess gift and as a chemist I find it very interesting!
Have a wonderful holiday season!
